California Construction Stormwater General Permit (CGP)
The CGP regulates discharges to waters of the United States from stormwater and authorized non-stormwater associated with construction activity from sites that disturb one or more acres of land surface, or that are part of a common plan of development or sale that disturbs more than one acre of land surface. Construction activity includes, but is not limited to, clearing, demolition, grading, excavation, and other land disturbance activities. California State Water Resources Control Board adopted the 2022 CGP and it went into effect on September 1, 2023. To view the permit, click here.
City of San Diego: Stormwater Standards Manual
The Stormwater Standards Manual addresses stormwater impacts and required controls associated with construction activities in the City of San Diego. The purpose of these standards is to provide minimum requirements to prevent construction activities from adversely impacting downstream and onsite resources. The protection of water quality from onsite pollutant sources is attainable when suitable Best Management Practices are planned, installed, and correctly maintained. To view the manual, click here.
Best Management Practices (BMP) Handbook
CASQA and Caltrans publish their own BMP Handbook to provide instructions for the selection and implementation of construction site BMPs in compliance with the CGP. The CASQA BMP Handbook is available for a fee, but the Caltrans BMP Handbook is free and can be found by clicking here.
